God Can Handle It
I’ve been reading the Psalms again this year. They are an interesting collection of Hebrew Poetry, many of which are in the form of prayers. What strikes me as I read many of these prayers is that the Psalmists (David, Asaph, etc.) are so real in expressing their feelings to God - even the negative ones.
For example these words are from Psalm 6: “My soul is in anguish. How long, O LORD, how long? Turn, O LORD, and deliver me; save me because of your unfailing love. No one remembers you when he is dead. Who praises you from the grave?” Or how about these questions from Psalm 10: “Why, O LORD, do you stand far off? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble? Why does the wicked man revile God? Why does he say to himself, "He won't call me to account"?” Or consider how this man must have felt to speak these words to God: “How long, O LORD ? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and every day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me?” (Psalm 13:1,2)
My point is this: God cares so much about each one of us, He loves us so much that He can handle our saying just about anything to Him if it’s honest and we’re not speaking evil of Him. I believe He wants us to tell Him how we really feel. This is prayer on the gut level. It’s not about fine sounding words spoken in King James English, but about the genuine laying open of our hearts and minds to our Father in heaven. It won’t bother Him if we get real with Him. He can handle it. Talk to Him. You’ll be glad you did.
