A Prayer for Today

Updated: Aug 15, 2021

I wanted to write a commentary on the social issues facing today, but today, at church, is a day of fasting and praying. Through the Lord's leading, I want to share with you a prayer for today: Lord, we have placed ourselves on the throne of our hearts,

and asked You to be a consultant.

Forgive us! You, and You alone belong on the throne!

Humble us Lord, forgive us, Lord,

let us hold Your name, and Your name alone High!

Father we desire to see Your Kingdom,

and not our own, but we've been building our own kingdoms.

Teach us to make the most of our time, Lord,

teach us to number our days,

that we may give You glory in each moment of each day.

Let us seek Your will above all else. Father, let us not also worship the future,

but seek to be satisfied in You today.

Let You be all we need today, Lord, to be satisfied.

Forgive us, Lord, for we have sinned.

Lord, we have made ourselves great,

we have placed our own ideas in front of You,

We have chased celebrities, politics, entertainment, and worldliness,

instead of seeking You.

We have forsaken Your Word for talking points,

using it only when it suits our ideology.

And we have caused division

by our seeking after our own means, solutions and ideals.

We have chased lust, success, work, filling out our time, and pleasures

over sitting and being still in You.

Forgive us Lord, for we have forsaken You,

return our hearts to You Lord.

Teach us, also, Lord,

that as You are faithful and just to forgive,

that we must also forgive.

Your Son tells us that we cannot be forgiven

if we do not forgive.

yet, Lord, our list of those we hold grudges against is high.

We speak Your praises with our lips,

and yet we grip, grumble, complain, call curses on, and call names to

people who think differently than us,

politicians, celebrities, and otherwise,

who are also made in Your image,

rather than praying for them to come to know You.

Father, You forgive our debts,

help us to let go and forgive our debtors!

Help us, because we know we can't see Your Son clearly

through a cloud of our own hate and surliness.

Father, as temptation arises

to lead us back to who we were before You,

give us a way of escape!

Help us, through Your Holy Spirit to resist the Devil,

that He may flee from us!

As Your Word states,

Crush the enemy, Satan, beneath our feet!

Let us be still in Your presence.

Let us rely on Your Holy Spirit within us.

Let Your Word reign over us!

Deliver us from the Enemy, oh Lord.

Let us not succumb to evil,

Or, as Your word says,

to overcome evil with evil,

but rather let us overcome evil with Good.

Teach us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us

As Jesus did.

Father, we ask for healing.

We have sinned.

We humble ourselves and pray,

as You say to.

Hear us from heaven,

forgive us

heal our land.

We ask all of this in Jesus name,

Amen

2 Chronicles 12:7-16 Then the LORD appeared to Solomon in the night and said to him: “I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for myself as a house of sacrifice. When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command the locust to devour the land, or send pestilence among my people, if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place. For now I have chosen and consecrated this house that my name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will be there for all time.
