I am not trying to write a self-help blog. I want to keep God at the forefront. Lately, I have been trying to make changes in my life that will lead to a healthier lifestyle. I have envisioned what my life will be like if I can change certain things. I get discouraged when I look at the present reality and it does NOT look like my dreamy future. To motivate myself, though, I have started with much smaller goals, or baby steps, that I can achieve.
One of my goals is to understand the Bible better. My smaller goal is to read my Bible everyday. I still have not memorized many Scripture verses, but I do understand more of what I read. Currently, I am following a reading plan that goes through the whole New Testament in one year. If I miss a day (which I already have), I can more easily make up the reading because it is not that long. The New Testament is much shorter than the Old Testament. I have previously read the whole bible in one year, but I skimmed much of it because I needed to get through so much. If I am reading every day, even if it is just one verse, I am better for it. I can dwell and meditate on smaller bits, rather than be overwhelmed with several chapters.
Do you have an ultimate goal in mind? Can you find smaller goals that will help you reach it?
Yet they seek me daily
and delight to know my ways,
as if they were a nation that did righteousness
and did not forsake the judgment of their God;
they ask of me righteous judgments;
they delight to draw near to God.
Isaiah 58:2 (English Standard Version)
