16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them.17 And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted.18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:16-20 (English Standard Version)
Yesterday, we had three baptisms! I was with the elementary kids in Junior Church, and had logged in to the live feed for the worship service, making sure we had enough time to do our next class activity. I noticed that there were a few adults that had come up to Brian during the Invitation! (The "Invitation" is a time for those who are moved by the Spirit to respond to the Gospel message. This traditionally comes at the end of the sermon.) As the congregation was singing "O Come to the Altar", these three adults did just that! They expressed their need for Jesus as their Savior, and wanted to express that through confession and baptism. I rushed all of my students down to the Sanctuary so that they could witness and support those who were being baptized. I wanted to be there too!
After someone is baptized, we have started to ask the question "Who will support them in their decision?" I love seeing the majority of those in the pews stand up! Many tears of joy can be found around the room. These kind of days are the BEST. I hope to continue to be there for new believers, helping them in their walk with the LORD. From now on, they are children of God.
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also.[a] From now on you do know him and have seen him.” John 14:6 (ESV)
