Chipping Away At You

Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will. Hebrews 2:1-4 Lie not in wait as a wicked man against the dwelling of the righteous;

do no violence to his home;

for the righteous falls seven times and rises again,

but the wicked stumble in times of calamity. Proverbs 24:15-16 I'm convinced that social media often lies to us. I'm not talking about Fake News or censorship (though those undoubtedly happen), but the promises of fulfillment the longer we stay connected. What we hope for is to represent God well, what often happens, however, is we let the issue(s) of the day erode our concentration on Jesus. Consider for a moment (as an example) how Politics is spoken of more by Christians than by the great love of Jesus. Let us consider how it seems to be on our minds, our lips, and our fingertips more than the power of our God. If people were to evaluate many of us by what we spoke of, would it be God, or politics that holds power over us? This is but one example of the many things vying for our affections and attentions. Every day there is a war for our minds. They seek to draw our attention one way or the other, getting us to look this way and that, and to turn us from the straight and narrow path that Jesus warned us not to stray from. Overtime, if left unchecked, the hings that battle for our mind will draw us so far off the path, we may lose our way and wander around lost in shadow. The enemy has many snares, none more cunning than the ones that draw our eyes from Jesus. They me even seem to be about Jesus, and yet they cause us to go further and further from the path. Christians, it's time that the name of God be ever on our lips again. We stumble far fewer times when we're deliberately and intentionally seeking Jesus out, taking every thought captive, and using our words and deeds for the glory of God. Otherwise, we're letting the enemy chip away at our faith, getting lost in all the noise of the world. Let us, then, fix our eyes on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith. Let us, daily, hourly, every minute seek to do all for His glory, and seek His word and Name to be in our mind, heart, and soul, so that our words and actions preach of His great glory to all we see and meet.
