This week, my daily Bible Study is in the book of Romans. There is so much “good stuff” to talk about, but I am limited in time today. When you find the time, DO read through it. It contains so much wisdom on what Christian theology and the gospel is. I want to just focus on Romans 12:9-13 for today.
Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.
Honestly, my personal prayer life has been lacking. I too often get caught up in the business side of life, I forget that I am a believer. I say that I believe in the mighty power of God, yet I keep trying to solve all my problems my own way. I do not seek God first. I should be doing that always. If I were in constant prayer, I would not be so impatient. I would do more for others, and not so much for myself. Rather than look at people who are doing good for others, I would be along side them, also doing good. I am in need of a “heart check”, examining why I do the things I do. Are they out of genuine love, or are they for selfish reasons? Do I drag my feet when it is my time to serve (umm, yes, sometimes), or do I have a zeal for serving the LORD. When I serve others, then I am serving Him. When I help other believers, than I am “contributing to the needs of the saints”.
My plan is not to try to do everything for everyone. That is just not possible, and that is not what God calls for. What He calls us to do is love Him with all of our hearts and love one another. If we keep those in mind, then we will do what is right.
