I Am Resolved

Now is the time of year when people start locking in their New Year’s Resolutions, and, to be quite honest, I’m not one of those people. I used to make New Year’s resolutions, don’t get me wrong, but, as Mary Poppins would say, they are pie crust promises, easily made and easily broken. Jesus tells us not to make vows at all, but to simply make our “yes” be “yes” and our “no” be “no.” So I am resolved to do this year what I did last year. I am going to do my very best to serve God and worship Him only. In all things, I want to acknowledge Him, and make everything I do, whether in my home, at work, in play, with my finances or with anything or anyone else, I want to make it about serving and worship of Him.

I am resolved: I will follow and worship Jesus with my all heart, mind, soul and strength. I will seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. After that, what do I have to worry about?

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,

and do not lean on your own understanding.

In all your ways acknowledge him,

and he will make straight your paths.

Psalm 28

To you, O Lord, I call;

my rock, be not deaf to me,

lest, if you be silent to me,

I become like those who go down to the pit.

Hear the voice of my pleas for mercy,

when I cry to you for help,

when I lift up my hands

toward your most holy sanctuary.

Do not drag me off with the wicked,

with the workers of evil,

who speak peace with their neighbors

while evil is in their hearts.

Give to them according to their work

and according to the evil of their deeds;

give to them according to the work of their hands;

render them their due reward.

Because they do not regard the works of the Lord

or the work of his hands,

he will tear them down and build them up no more.

Blessed be the Lord!

For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy.

The Lord is my strength and my shield;

in him my heart trusts, and I am helped;

my heart exults,

and with my song I give thanks to him.

The Lord is the strength of his people;

he is the saving refuge of his anointed.

Oh, save your people and bless your heritage!

Be their shepherd and carry them forever.
