The Heavens Declare His Glory

The heavens declare the glory of God,

and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.

Day to day pours out speech,

and night to night reveals knowledge.

There is no speech, nor are there words,

whose voice is not heard.

Their voice goes out through all the earth,

and their words to the end of the world.

In them he has set a tent for the sun,

which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber,

and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy.

Its rising is from the end of the heavens,

and its circuit to the end of them,

and there is nothing hidden from its heat. Psalm 19:1-6

The last few days, my oldest son has wanted to get up to see the sun rise. Faithfully, he gets up each morning at 5:30, sits outside covered in a blanket, and waits. Unfortunately, he doesn't quite have the stamina, for as soon as it begins, he gets sleepy and goes right back to bed. This morning, my wife and I decided to join him. His reports from the past few days have not been quite accurate. Beautiful is not a word to capture the moment the three of us shared. In the moments as the sun was rising, choirs of birds were singing to greet the sun, the errant light streamed through the clouds, trees, and reflected off the waters as the sun rode its path through the heavens. Nature declaring the glory of God as we sat there in stunned, awed silence. It spoke of the glories of the One who created it. When was the last time you sat still in the presence of God in the middle of his creation? When was the last time you put down the technology and enjoyed what God declared in the beginning "very good"? It is hard not to see the beauty of God's natural order and not feel the desire to worship Him, as one sits still in His presence in the middle of creation. It is as we were meant to be: in the center of the Garden with God. Take time to read God's word today and see how nature declares His glory. Then sit in awe in His presence as His creation sings praise!
