This week, most Americans will be celebrating Thanksgiving. I am looking forward to getting together with some extended family again. I am only providing two side dishes, and I am not even the one hosting the feast, so I am pretty thankful for that! I know that not everyone has the means to prepare and eat a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Or, they will be alone, with no one to share. Some people are working, or too far from loved ones to get together this time. Some are in the hospital or other facility and are not able to enjoy this time. Some are going to experience the holidays without a recently deceased family member. Whatever one's circumstances, we are still told to give thanks.
Paul writes in 1 Thessalonians:
16 Rejoice always,17 pray without ceasing,18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
I found a challenge for Sunday School classes to write something you can thank God for that begins with each letter of the alphabet. This may have been from a children's class, but I think adults should do this too. Here is my list:
A- apples
B- Brian (my husband)
C- Church
D- Discovery Christian Church (my home church in California)
E- electricity
F- forgiveness
G- God
H- hope
I- ice cubes
J- Jesus
K- kitchen
L- Lyzander (my son)
M- music
N- neighbors
O- ornaments
P- Phinehas (my son)
Q- quiet
R- rest
S- Sebastian (my son)
T- Tobias (my son)
U- umbrellas
V- vehicles
W- water
X- x-ray technology
Y- yellow (not my favorite color, but it is still lovely)
Z- zippers
That took me a little while to come up with some things, but I know I could come up with many more. Could you think of at least 26 things you can be thank God for?
Thank God everyday!
