My birthday was this past weekend! I was sent lots of birthday messages and phone calls, given hugs, and was just loved on all weekend. It has been an exhausting weekend, with little time to rest, though. I decided to look up the word "birthday" in the Bible, to see if it appeared anywhere. In the English Standard Version, the word "birthday" only appears a handful of times, and all in reference to Pharaoh (Genesis 40) or Herod (Matthew 14 and Mark 6), and the parties they threw themselves. My husband and sons threw me a little party with cake and mint chocolate chip ice cream (my favorite).
In honor of your birthday, whenever it is, I would like to share a blessing. It can be found in the book of Numbers (yep, Old Testament). The LORD told Moses to tell his brother, Aaron, and the priests how to bless the people of Israel. God promised to bless His people. May this blessing reach you and me!
The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
