If We’re Not Covered By the Blood of Christ, We’re Not Covered by Anything
I’m sure you’ve seen the countless advertisements for the many different insurance companies out there. If I was to hum the jingle or say the slogan, you’d know the company before I finished! All of these companies are pushing a single product: insurance. Insurance to cover you in case of accidents, in the home, in the car, for your life, boat, and many other things beside. We have an abundance of insurance companies trying to prepare us for the inevitable danger that is bound to happen once in a life time, yet no amount of insurance covers you meeting God face to face.
There is only one form of ASSURANCE that grants us to be in the presence of almighty God, and that is the blood of Jesus Christ. Sure, many people like to poke fun at this belief, but there is absolute justice in the world, and it all ends at the throne of God. Revelation 20:12 tells us
“And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done.”
Everyone will stand before God. It doesn’t matter who you are, what you believe or what you’ve done. There is no distinction at the foot of the throne of God. He’s our Designer, our Creator, and we’re going to be judged according to His law. We’re either to be judged by everything we’ve ever done in comparison to that law, or we’re judged by the Righteousness of Christ. The only way to get in to that book of Life is to be covered by the Blood of the Lamb. So many of us want to make it more, heaping on traditions and rules, and many want to make it less, all roads lead to Jesus. Neither of these is true or helpful. We’re saved because of Jesus Christ. We’re born again because of Jesus. We’re baptized INTO Jesus. It’s all about Jesus. And so we’re seeking eternal life with Jesus, and must, then, Follow Jesus. If we make it about anything else, we’re deluding ourselves. If we’re not covered by the blood of Christ, we’re not covered by anything.
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’
1 Corinthians 15:1-11
Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me. For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me. Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.
Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
