Is Your Part of the Body Suffering Gangrene?

Writer: Brian DoyleBrian Doyle

Sometimes, we feel disconnected with church. It's something that happens to many of us. This disconnection even causes us to question if we have a place within the church. At times, there are ministries that don't seem to consider others, at times there are too many helpers and not enough help. Sometimes, though, perhaps it's that we're not taking the opportunities to use our gifts, and blaming others that they are not being used. We're part of the body of Christ, endowed with a gift given to us by the Holy Spirit, but lack of use, our party starts to get gangrenous. I looked up the definition of gangrene: localized death and decomposition of body tissue, resulting from either obstructed circulation or bacterial infection. Simply put, Gangrene occurs when a part of the body dies because there's not enough blood flow, or an infection occurs through an outside force. Isn't this our church experience sometimes? Church isn't the building, or even the worship on Sunday morning, it's should be who we are at all times, connected with Christ and all other believers. Yet the disconnection could be because there's an infection, and the church is unhealthy, but often it's because we have no Spirit flow to us, and we're not using the gifts that God has given us. We, in effect, cause our own gangrenous situation. I was guilty of this for many years, and it's easy to blame others for it. The truth is, I won't get to Jesus by anything anyone else does, but by my following and knowing Jesus intimately (I never knew you, away from me you doers of lawlessness). It's not by my works, not by my tithes, but by my faith that I am righteous before God. If i trust in Him, and I do as He says, then I am exercising my faith. I get healthy! But if I am unhealthy, I get cut off (John 15). Be healthy! Get connected to your maker, and you will grow! Matthew 7:21-23 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’
