Jesus Lamented People Who Seek Signs…so Why Do I Do It?

“And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to test him they asked him to show them a sign from heaven. He answered them, “When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’ And in the morning, ‘It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.” So he left them and departed.” -Matthew 16:1-4

Next Monday there will be some sort of celestial event occurring. Everyone in our area is preparing for it, people are renting out their pasture lands as camp sites, hotels are booking up, and some people are panicking. I’ve seen so many posts lately on supposed Biblical prophecy, about the eclipse passing over Biblical named towns, about what some Swedish scientists are doing, and so much more. To be quite  honest, Church, I’m not buying it. Jesus could come back, sure, but He could come back today, tomorrow, 10 or one hundred years from now. One thing Jesus always got frustrated with was the demands for a sign that His generation always demanded from Him. I’m sure that, if He was bodily among us today, He’d have the same frustration.

Loved ones, Bible Prophecy does not exist to give us a road map to the apocalypse. It does not give us a detailed plan, complete with time tables and dates to pack our bags. When Jesus spoke of the times and seasons, He pointed out that His followers shouldn’t worry, or panic; rather, they should be ready at all times, serving faithfully, as they always should have been. I’m not afraid of celestial events. I’m not afraid of political events. I’m not afraid of principalities and powers. Sin and Death have been conquered. So YOU stay close to Jesus. Be people who abide in His words. Be in the Scriptures daily. Cultivate your prayer life. Be bold in proclaiming the Good News, that Jesus has conquered sin and the grave! THEN you will have no need to fear, walking close to Christ as the rest of the world panics.

The Prince of this world is on notice. Jesus is coming back, whether sooner or later, and my role is to Love and Serve Him and others, and tell everyone I can about His saving grace and mercy that whosoever will, can come to Him and be free, as I have been freed, from the burden of sin and death. That’s it. So stop looking up. Stop listening to the false prophets who cry out peace or destruction, and look to your neighbor who is dead in sin and give them the words of Life.

Matthew 24:36-51

“But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left. Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

“Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his master has set over his household, to give them their food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions. But if that wicked servant says to himself, ‘My master is delayed,’ and begins to beat his fellow servants and eats and drinks with drunkards, the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know and will cut him in pieces and put him with the hypocrites. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

2 Timothy 3

But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth. Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men corrupted in mind and disqualified regarding the faith. But they will not get very far, for their folly will be plain to all, as was that of those two men.

You, however, have followed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness, my persecutions and sufferings that happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra—which persecutions I endured; yet from them all the Lord rescued me. Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
