Seek First

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Matthew 6:25-34
Worry is the opposite of trust in God. Let me say that again: WORRY is the opposite of TRUST in God. And so many believers are so anxious all the time. Why? Because we look to things beyond our control (and let's face it, that's basically everything) and because it doesn't work like we want it to, we begin to panic. We make excuses for ourselves and others as to why we can't do what God commands, but what we're really saying is "I can do this myself, but everything I do is out of control." We focus on getting clothing, houses, cars, toys, entertainment, acquiring as much as we can before we leave this earth and leave it all behind. We get upset and agitated about things that have no eternal value, and we allow these same things to grab our attention away from the Father who desires to provide for all of our needs.
Good Christian, stop. Stop worrying, stop agonizing, stop looking to that which you want, and desperately desire, and seek ONLY the God who has your welfare in mind. Jesus said it flat out: seek first the Kingdom of God, and HIS righteousness THEN all these things (that which you need), will be added unto you. Is your life about that Kingdom set before the foundation of the world and the inheritance promised to those faithful to the King? Or is it about this dying world that will soon dissolve and pass away? Seek God, He will provide, Seek righteousness, complete faith and trust in Him. He will provide what you need. It won't be easy, but it will be worth it. Oh...and stop worrying! He has it all in hand!
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. 1 John 2:15-17
