Trying to Make Sense of it All

And he called the people to him and said to them,“Hear and understand: it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person.” Then the disciples came and said to him, “Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?” He answered,“Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be rooted up. Let them alone;they are blind guides. And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.” But Peter said to him,“Explain the parable to us.” And he said,“Are you also still without understanding? Do you not see that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the stomach and is expelled? But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person.19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. These are what defile a person. Butt eat with unwashed hands does not defile anyone.” Matthew 15:10-20

When we look at the world, we can see it's divided. We're divided by politics, we're divided by skin color, we're divided by culture and language...I could spend whole pages on the things which divide humans from one another. It hurts my heart. What hurts even more is how we (and I mean all of us) seem to be drawn to what offends us, as opposed to being disgusted by it. We talk about these things non-stop, we post about it in our social media, we complain about it in our phone calls and face to face chats (yes, those still happen). We see the negativity, and the ugliness that humans, all made in the image of their Creator, enact on one another, and we have a morbid fascination with it. Why? How does this even make sense? The condition of our hearts is the litmus test for this. Jesus said "Hear and understand: it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person." Explaining this, He stated that what comes out of our mouths is the test of the condition of our hearts. So if we are talking about hate, if we're concentrating on what is wrong, if we're putting others down (No matter what they do to us), We had better watch ourselves! Our hearts are full of bitterness! Consider what you say, what you post about, what you're offended by and react to; what does this say about the condition of your heart? If you want to bring peace to the world, it comes, first from Jesus Christ. He will then give us new hearts, and then use us to help others with this condition. Only then, when we shut out the bitterness, lust, rage, and everything else besides, will things begin to make sense. Only when Jesus resides in us through His Holy Spirit, will we make sense of it all and see true change.
